The Notes app is a distraction free notes taking app for Nextcloud. It provides categories for better organization and supports formatting using Markdown syntax. Notes are saved as files in your Nextcloud, so you can view and edit them with every Nextcloud client. Furthermore, a separate REST API allows for an easy integration into third-party apps (currently, there are notes apps for Android, iOS and the console which allow convenient access to your Nextcloud notes). Further features include marking notes as favorites.

Amazing app, I can finally get rid of Google keep!

I have deleted others and this is now my fulltime note app. Combined with the android nextcloud notes app I can use desktop and mobile devices and not worry about syncing.

I find it a bit too simple and lacking in features. Especially on Android and when compared to other options. However, it is likely one of the most used apps on my instance. In fact, at this point, I have over 2,000 notes. Having it sync with NC is a bonus and being able to work on it on the cloud, is also another bonus. It is unfortunate you cannot add photos.

I wish it had more options but at the same time, for a quick note, an in-and-out of the app, it does a pretty good job. Like the fact there is also an "append to note" share option is also welcome. Wished the "new note" widget came back, though. As it stands, I have to use another app, to activate the intent via a swipe in order to make a quick note on the fly. Albeit I assume many are not aware that you can do that but doing makes things go faster.

Markdown is highly appreciated, but there is a limitation with the Text app as it will change the format of some files and thus it cannot be used fully as an integrated full-on text only note/editing solution, yet that is not to be confused with the notion of it being some type of IDE-lite solution, since clearly that was never the goal.

For most users, it will be OK though, and I find it useful for what it is.

Update: For some reason, on mobile, the Rich Text feature fails to load, it seems fine on PC. The issues have been open on Github since NC25 and we are heading towards NC28 and the issues are still there. Multiple phones.

Who has time to take a note and use markdown language. Too difficult to use. Poor Grouping capabilities as well.

Simpler than Google Keep, and in my experience it tends to sync faster. I like that the data is just text in my sync folder: it's human-readable, and I can use a local text editor when I want to.

I really like the Android App from Niedermann IT. It's a lot faster than Nextcloud's built-in editor and manages to open and sync cleanly and quickly even when I have a spotty cell signal.

Simple, but gets the job done and syncs quickly. I love it.

The headers with the vague times need to go.

I found that this app, especially when paired with the companion mobile app, to be extremely useful when I just need to capture some ideas. It's become part of my daily routine and I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a simple note taking system.

This is a simple but effective app that lets you browse, search and edit notes with Markdown syntax.

  • The good: it integrates with QOwnnotes, so far the best note-taking app to keep record of your musings.
  • The bad: there are no settings you can change, apart from the folder and the extension to use.
  • The ugly: you can't reverse the order the way your notes are listed under one category.

This is an essential app, although very basic it gives me everything I need from my notes. The android app works well too.

Plain and simple note taking app that's great for those used to taking notes in Markdown format. I was previously using Dropbox Paper, and while this app has fewer features, the general usage is close enough to be an easy transition for me.

Idea is quite great. Work nice with elastic search, but...

  • Works quite slow (maybe we need some kind of AJAX background saving or something)?
  • Sometimes when you tagging note - it display error, but saving correctly anyway.
  • Doesn't support https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/files_markdown but only limited kind of MarkDown simple editor

Good idea, but still need improvement to be fully useful. Keep going!

This application needs serious improvements on graphical text formatting options. In this current state it just does not make any sense. Here's why:

  • In an enterprise environment regular users, like folks at HR or Accounting will absolutely not willing to learn the Markdown language. They just complain about the lack of features comparing it to Google Keep or OneNote.
  • If the user is a tech savvy person they might would learn Markdown but why to bother with another application? Everything that this Notes App has to offer (creating and editing folders and text files) can be done with the Files App getting the exact same results . So it's just an extra app installed to duplicate the very same features. Until it can't offer graphical tools like check-lists, inserting pictures etc... it just does not make any sense. Use the default Files App instead and save some server resources by not installing it.

I don't understand the low rating on the android app. It works perfect and I love it. It's so simple and does what it's supposed. Like the author said...a simple clean interface. That's all I want with my notes. When I take a note, I need it fast and not cluttered.

I like writing quick notes in markdown, so the app always was my first choice. And I like it because of it's ties to http://www.qownnotes.org/. ;)

It just works.

Combined with the "Notes" android app (warning, there are several in F-Droid), it is a real pleasure to have my notes synchronized everywhere.

It uses the first line of a note as a title.

Thanks for the app.

A very easy to use note app. It takes just a little while to learn the Markdown language and it works fast and well. The android apps also works well. I like the small preview. Minimalist design and fast. I recommend this app.

Great notes app with markdown support. Main goal seems to be simplicity and distracting free writing which is very welcome for me. A great feature is the inline-editing which allows to edit the rendered markdown so you have everything in a single view and don't have to deal with a split screen mode.

Hands down the best and simplest Notes app there is. Awesome seamless Markdown integration.
