NextBackup (formerly OwnBackup) is the simple database backup solution for your Nextcloud or ownCloud installation.

Its main purpose is to provide an easy solution to restore the tables of an app in case you accidentally corrupted the data or did anything you regret later.

  • Use this app at your own risk! Data loss may occur!
  • This app is no replacement for a more professional backup solution!

App development is discontinued, now - due existing backups compatibility reasons - waiting there for removal after support lifespan of last supported Nextcloud release will end.

Do NOT install this app! It WILL break your database 100% on restore. This app should not be allowed to be installed like this!

There is a bug with database table columns of type longblob, which the app can not restore. Such a column is for example used in the "calendardata" column in the "oc_calendarobjects" table.

If you try to restore that table (or the whole database), it will WIPE ALL YOUR CALENDARS and then fail to restore because it cannot recreate the column with type longblob. You cannot even just re-create your calendars from the webui, as the app will remove the whole column from the database. So you have to MANUALLY RE-CREATE THE MISSING COLUMN (however, this does not solve the issue, as upon another restore attempt, the column gets removed again and restore fails with same error). Otherwise you will not be able to use your calendars anymore!

The developer is aware of the issue and just briefly mentions it in a comment of a several hundred lines long script file, as if it was just a minor annoyance!

I m completely baffled how this app is even allowed to be listed here when it will break the database and wipe all your calendars!

Apps like this, which just do not work and the developer being aware of it, are what give community projects a bad reputation of being unpolished and buggy to use. Sometimes its better to release nothing at all, than something broken that will cost people hours of wasted time and lost data! Again: DO NOT USE THIS APP!
