Document server for OnlyOffice, community edition.

The community document server is designed to make it easy to get OnlyOffice running in a Nextcloud instance without the need to setup an external document server, the community document server does not support all features of the official OnlyOffice document server and does not provide the same performance and scalability.

If you are setting up a larger instance or require the additional performance, please see https://onlyoffice.com for options for getting the official document server.

The community document server will automatically be configured if no other document server is configured for OnlyOffice.

Additionally, the community document server only supports running on x86-64 Linux servers.

I have been using it since version 0.1.11.

Excellent compatibility with MS Office and absolutely full compatibility with YDisk, which uses the same server. I also picked up YDisk via WebDav on my NextCloud and I work with documents located both on my site and on YDisk without worrying about compatibility. The same documents on YDisk can be edited both through your NextCloud and directly on YDisk.

Works great! I have installed OnlyOffice on one of my three home laptops and connected it to NextCloud. I plan to stop using the MS Office in the future.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of negative reviews after ham-handed attempts to be installed, configured and used. This is strange, because... if somebody was able to install NextCloud, then there should be no problems with OnlyOffice.

FUCK THE RELEASERS!

You would not build a car and put it into offer where 2 of 3 cars make a crash and people got ruined.

Please take this app out!

There are bugs two years old and still open causing the loss of data. Files are not synced back to nextcloud after editing. Why is this still promoted on the netxcloud blog? https://nextcloud.com/de/blog/how-to-install-onlyoffice-in-nextcloud-hub-and-new-integration-feature/

Nope, don't use this crap. It should be deactivated until bugs are fixed.

After installing this app on Nextcloud 23.0.2 I cannot use ONLYOFFICE because there is literally a bracket '(' missing in the source code! Unfortunately ONLYOFFICE does not work because of this.

This used to be very hard to configure with versions 19, 20, 21. But since version 22 came out, this is a breeze! I love how it smoothly connects to my nextcloud and works like a charm. Everything woks fine ans as expected.

After over a year still does not save documents without manually doing a occ command even after stetting up crontab (which runs fine). But its even worse than that. Text can sill get lost, seems to be somewhere hidden/bugged in the document as some old text suddenly appeared again after half a year while removing my most recent text. Absolutely not production ready, it should be deactivated until fully fixed.

As other reviewers have pointed out, this app is very bad. Beyond bad. Absolutely not production ready, as it will not save changes to the files on the server, but only stores them in a cache. It has been a known issue for a long time. This should be fixed or the app should be removed, as it's not functional in its current state.

UPDATE: I'm using swizzin.ltd to install nextcloud, and I can use this normally, there is no problem anymore, maybe this time using different version of nextcloud.

Documents are not saved, so I have to using crontab every 30 seconds to save my documents, but I can't open my document offline, or it will restore to previous versions. I'm using NGINX, PHP 73, MariaDB 10, and Centos 7.

This is my crontab.

          • /bin/bash -c ' for i in {1..30}; do sudo -u nginx php /usr/share/nginx/html/mydomain.tld/occ documentserver:flush ; sleep 30; done'

Do NOT use this app! It doesn't work at all. Changes appear to be saved but are actually not saved to Nextcloud and will be lost on your next update. I lost a year's worth of financial records to this. Please take this app down until it is fixed, this is just irresponsible.

The below reviewer (Nick) rating this app "good" and saying they don't use it should be ignored when it comes to this app, because this app is where the bug is, not in the ONLYOFFICE connector app. To Nick: Don't rate something good if you aren't even using it..... If you use standalone OnlyOffice with the ONLYOFFICE integration app, yes it should be fine, but this documentserver_community app is utterly broken and should be taken down ASAP.

Works great for me. I'm running a OnlyOffice Document server via Docker on the same server as NextCloud, not the newer, built-in solution that NextCloud provides. I've never had any data loss issues that people are mentioning. Mobile app works great connecting to my NextCloud instances as well.

Unfortunately this app is not production ready, data loss will happen frequently, do not use it in production (just to see an onlyoffice in your NC for testing the editor only, it is ok).
You have to install a dedicated onlyoffice document server. With dedicated server onlyoffice is awesome.
The solution depends on your environment:

  • docker: you can find an English howto for using docker here https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/100#issuecomment-712505365
  • lxc/kvm/dedicated hardware based on debian/ubuntu whatever: easy to install, just follow the official document from onlyoffice website

There is no solution almost since beginning of 2020, so, do not wait for quick solution, use dedicated server instead.

Frequently dataloss! The last 30 days, i've lost 5 times the whole process of hours. Even a document that i've worked with for 2 Month, got completely wiped after the last update.

Removed this crap and changed back to google spreadsheets

All of the comments about documents not saving are true. It is a critical bug that makes it impossible to recommend using OnlyOffice. And that is sad, because the OnlyOffice apps for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint seem to look and work really well. It's hard to imagine putting in so much work making apps that work so well, only to leave in such a showstopper.

Same issues as everyone else. Even with document flush and cron running very often - some data is not stored. Do not use!

Documents are not saved. https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/12 https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/100 https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/103 https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/121 The bug is here since January but nobody takes care of it. Please unpublish (or at least take it out of the default install) until this issue is fixed. People are loosing their work and Nextcloud it's credibility.

This app is good for personal use, being easy to set up for novice users. However, this app is in no shape or form meant for production work or important data; file changes are not always saved, leaving you with hours of work lost due to changes in the document that are not written to the actual file. There are also random user ghosting (you can't edit parts of the document since you occasionally get locked out by your own user), and errors in displaying certain random characters (certain letters might not show when reloading the document).

TL;DR

This app is NOT for any important work; your data may be lost. Further reference: https://github.com/nextcloud/documentserver_community/issues/100#issuecomment-610453575

Documents get wiped randomly, no versioning - data loss predictable.
